Check your company name before you file

Name rejections cost founders days, and sometimes the filing fee. This tool checks a proposed name against the MCA naming rules in seconds. The CA runs the official RUN check before anything is filed.

Type it the way you would file it, for example "Zorvex Foods Private Limited".

Entity

One line. Used to suggest trade mark classes and better alternatives.

The check runs in your browser and takes a second.

Rule 8, 8A and 8B

The rules in plain words

  • End with the right words. A private company ends with "Private Limited". A public company ends with "Limited". An LLP ends with "LLP". MCA registers the full form, so "Pvt Ltd" becomes "Private Limited".
  • Have at least one distinctive word. Names made only of activity words are refused. "Global Trading Services" fails. "Zorvex Trading Services" passes. A coined word or a surname works best.
  • Some words need Central Government approval. Rule 8B lists them: Board, Commission, Authority, National, Union, Central, Federal, Republic, President, Minister, Governor, Municipal, Panchayat, Court, Statutory, Scheme, Bureau and a few more. Without approval in hand, the name is sent back.
  • Sector words need the regulator first. Bank, Insurance, Stock Exchange, Mutual Fund, Venture Capital, Asset Management, Nidhi and Chit Fund need a declaration that RBI, SEBI, IRDAI or MCA has cleared the activity.
  • Small tricks do not make a name new. MCA ignores plurals, spacing, hyphens, "and" versus "&", tense, translations, numerals, place names and words like New, Shree or The. If "Zorvex Foods" exists, "Zorvex Food and Co" is the same name.
  • A company name is not a trade mark. Registering the company gives you no rights in the brand. Search the trade mark register before you file, and file the mark in the class that matches your activity.

Questions

Before you ask

Does this tool check the MCA database for existing names?

No. It checks the rules that MCA applies, not the register of companies. Use the MCA search link in the results for existing names, and let the CA run the official check before filing. The two together cover most rejections.

What happens if MCA rejects my name?

The RUN form allows one resubmission with two fresh names. If that fails too, the fee is lost and you file again. Each round costs two to three working days. That is why a pre-check pays for itself.

Can I use my own surname in the company name?

Yes. A surname is a good distinctive word. If it is also a well-known mark, such as Tata or Bajaj, expect an objection even if it is your name, and keep proof of identity ready.

Is the AI second opinion the same as advice from the CA?

No. It is a model reading the name against the same rules, useful for alternatives and for catching what you missed. The CA reviews every name before filing and signs the application.
